March Eris of the Month 2018: Dwarf Planet Eris with Moon Dysnomia

March Eris of the of the Month 2018: Dwarf Planet Eris and her moon Dysnomia.

This month’s entry for Eris of the Month is the solar system’s largest Dwarf Planet, Eris, “holding” its moon Dysnomia (daughter of Eris) as the Apple of Discord.

This amazing composite photo courtesy of NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and the Keck Observatory telescopes in Hawaii taken during August 2006.

In space, no one can see the fnords.

Also, check out this previous post about Dwarf Planet Eris wherein Early Discordian Louise Lacy writes a letter to Eris’ discoverer, astronomer Michael E. Brown, in an attempt to lure him into Discordianism and most likely the Region of Thud.

5 Years Ago: Brenton Clutterbuck visits the Discordian Archives

Brenton Clutterbuck of the worldwide Chasing Eris project quest poses with the original Paste-Up Discordia (PUD) cover page.

Five years ago (Hail, Eris! for the Law of Fives!) Brenton Clutterbuck began his mission to visit and interview Discordians around the world for his soon to be released book Chasing Eris.

Here are a few pics and clips of Clutterbuck, a Discordian Archives contributor, visiting the Discordian Archives West and the Discordian Archives East during his 2013 travels.

First up, Clutterbuck films Adam Gorightly explaining all the confusion surrounding the history of the First Edition of the Principia Discordia, at the home of Louise Lacey in Berkeley, California.

After leaving the Left Coast, Clutterbuck found himself in the most conservative Republican county in the United States, Cobb County, Georgia, where he got a good, hard look at the Discordian Archives East. Here are a few pics of his visit:

February Eris of the Month 2018: DC Comics Ares (not Eris) of New Earth

February Eris of the Month 2018:
DC Comics Ares from Wonder Woman.

CORRECTION: Some quick sloppy Internet research (is there any other kind?) by me got this Eris of the Month a little muddled. The above image is not of Eris, but Ares, God of War, brother to Eris. And from a different comic and timeline. Are we good or what? But we’ll keep it just the same. Story below has been updated with some interesting Erisian Mysteries. Caution as always with this knowledge for as it is commanded in the Pentabarf in the Principia Discordia, “A Discordian is Prohibited of Believing what he reads.” All errors were mine and I own them. Mine, mine, mine!
–The MGT.

First appearance of Eris in Wonder Woman Vol 1 #183, Page 00005.
The first appearance of Eris in DC Comics was in Wonder Woman Vol. 1 #183 (August, 1969), and in accordance with the Law of Fives, on Page 00005. All this takes place in the New Earth timeline.

Praise be to Our Lady of Discord, figuring out comic book universe timelines is all very confusing.

As I was trying to unmuddle this murky mess, Adam remembered seeing a copy of Wonder Woman Vol. 1 #183 in the Discordian Archives and upon review discovered some notes that Greg Hill had affixed to Page 00021 of the comic. The cypher at the top is the two Zwack Cyphers for classified Discordian communications as revealed on Page 00074 of the Principia Discordia. It reads:

CERTIFIED MIRACLE!

Certified Miracle: Wonder Woman #168 with notes attached by Greg Hill on Page 00021.

After realizing the snafu and mixup of Eris with Ares for this month’s EOTM, another Erisian Mystery of Great Importance was discovered in the artwork of Ares:

The Five Fingered Hand of Eris on Ares' helmet?

Could this be the source for the The Five Fingered Hand of Eris on Page 00021 (coincidence???) of the Principia Discordia, or, could this mean a certain DC Comics artist was an Early Discordian?

Ave Eris, Gratia Plena: The Pasts of Discordian Christmas

Have a Kerry Christmas!
Discordianism is well-known to tolerate the traditional holidays and holydays of other delusional systems of belief and Christmas is no exception.

To demonstrate, here are some festive reason-for-the-season articles from the Discordian Archives about the pasts of Discordian Christmas.

Bless us, Eris!

June Eris of the Month 2017: DreamWorks Eris

June Eris of the Month 2017: DreamWorks Eris.

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (watch on Amazon Video) is a 2003 animated film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by DreamWorks Pictures featuring Brad Pitt as Sinbad, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Marina, Joseph Fiennes as Proteus, and (most importantly for Discordians) Michelle Pfeiffer as Our Lady of Chaos, Eris!

The animation is amazing and the story is pretty solid. According to Sinbad‘s IMDb listing, this film was the last hand-animated DreamWorks production and their first use of Linux OS for the computer-animated parts.

(How this wraps back-around to the publishing of the Principia Discordia as the inspiration for the origin of the CopyLeft, FreeWare, Creative Commons, and Open-Source computer movements will be revealed in later posts. Stay tuned!)

The mix of hand and digital animation gives the film a rare style and stunning looking sequences not seen before or since in animated movies.

Roger Ebert’s review of Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas gave it Four-and-a-Half stars, saying “That it works is because of the high-energy animation, some genuinely beautiful visual concepts and a story that’s a little more sensuous than we expect in animation.” And he’s right, there are gorgeously animated moments in the film that marry hand-animation with the digital animation in strikingly unique ways. And the story is smart and well written for all ages to enjoy.

Michelle Pfeiffer’s voicing of Eris as the film’s main antagonist is pure seduction.

Here’s the opening sequence of the Sinbad with Pfeiffer as Eris that sets up the story… be sure to embiggen the video for best viewing of the animation:

As with all things Eris-related, look for the chaos. According to the Wikipedia entry for Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas, the film grossed “$80.7 million on a $60 million budget, DreamWorks Animation suffered a $125 million loss on the film, which nearly bankrupted the company and caused it to abandon traditional animation in favor of computer animation.”

This should be a warning, just like with Zeus and The Original Snub, you don’t mess with Eris. Ever.

Again, wake the kids and call the neighbors, you can watch the choas here on Amazon Video!

As always, Kallisti!
